The Smurfs: A Magical Smurf Adventure is out now on Warner Bros. home entertainment 2-disc DVD collection for the next generation to smurf it up!
The Smurfs left miles of smiles on the faces of Saturday morning cartoon fans throughout the 1980’s as this smurftacular powder-blue crew, including Brainy, Lazy, Vanity and Smurfette, led by the wise, gentle and 542-year-old Papa Smurf. They live in their mushroom houses and battle Gargamel, the local evil wizard, who is forever scheming against the tiny team but our little friends outsmurf him every time!
The Smurfs in 3D from Sony Pictures is out now in theaters starring Neil Patrick Harris, along with the voice talents of Katy Perry as Smurfette, George Lopez as Grouchy Smurf and Hank Azaria as Gargamel. The Smurfs tied with the Universal Pictures, Jon Favreau (Iron Man) directed, Cowboys and Aliens over the weekend for the top spot each grossing approximately $36 million in their opening weekends. Helloooo Harrison Ford!
I do digress, but really, who isn’t distracted by Harrison Ford? Take the kids out to see the Smurfs in 3D and when they undoubtedly fall in love with this tiny group of blue creatures, who will fuel their smurftacular little imaginations, stop by your local Target or Best Buy on the way home and pick up The Smurfs: A Magical Smurf Adventure on DVD. Enjoy 10 classic episodes with the adorable Smurfette and wise Papa Smurf in his red cap over and over with the kids! It’s OK, we won’t tell if you pop it in the DVD player after the kids have gone to bed to relive your childhood and catch a favorite episode! Who doesn’t love the Smurfs?

Life On The Scene readers, I have been moonlighting, for a site called Tree.com doing some writing for their entertainment section and covering a variety of live events for them. One of the recent ones was the massive, long-awaited return of U2 to Anaheim, California where they took over Angel’s Stadium for two shows. They put on an incredible show, as one would expect from U2 with fine support from Lenny Kravitz to kick off the evening.

I’ve also been covering events such as Bruno Mars, Duran Duran (who we were lucky enough to see before lead singer Simon le Bon suffered vocal cord injuries which led to cancellation of the band’s European summer tour), Honor Society and My Chemical Romance recently. I hope to get some links and images from those reviews posted for you soon.
Looking ahead, we hope to bring you coverage on INXS, Joe Jonas of the Jonas Brothers as he launches his first solo album, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part II (I can’t believe we’re at the end of the series!), Comic-Con and some projects Robert Downey Jr. is working on and Katy Perry.

Fairfax Vying for Coveted Summerfest Slot

Los Angeles based Indie/Alt Rock duo Fairfax, consisting of California native Heavynn Gates (vocals) and Georgia born Blake English (guitar) blend strong, soulful vocals and riveting guitar riffs, on their latest single Battle. The band met while writing songs for R&B artist Brandy, and shared a common background in dance music and hip-hop.
Fairfax are among the top five finalists in Taylor Guitars Test Drive Electric contest for emerging artists (also sponsored by Elixir Strings and SonicBids.com). Nearly 1,000 acts entered, and after a preliminary round of voting, a panel of artist relations professionals narrowed it down to five finalists: singer-songwriter Tyler Shea, and bands Crash Coordinates, Evaline, Fairfax, and Shot Heard Around the World.
The final round of the contest is under way with voting open through March 31, 2011. Fairfax’s entry into the contest, the video for their latest single, Battle, is up for viewing & voting now on the Test Drive Electric contest site. Don’t forget to vote daily for your favorite artist.
The winner of the contest wins a slot in the World’s Largest Music Festival Summerfest taking place June 29 – July 3 and July 5 – 10, 2011 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin featuring everyone from Toby Keith, arena rockers Def Leppard, the Black Keys, Florence + the Machine to Cage the Elephant, everyone’s darling Katy Perry and Sugarland.

Jack Black to Host Kids Choice Awards 2011

Always full of surprises, actor/comedian Jack Black will take viewers on a wild ride as he returns to host Nickelodeon’s 2011 Kids’ Choice Awards, premiering live on Saturday, April 2, at 8:00 p.m. (ET/Tape delayed for West Coast). Back by popular demand, Black, who will star in the upcoming film Kung Fu Panda 2, returns for the third time (2006 and 2008) to host the ultimate kid experience from the all-new venue, the Galen Center at USC in Los Angeles.
Katy Perry gets slimed at Kids Choice 2010
Nominees Include Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Swift, the Jonas Brothers, Robert Downey Jr., Emma Watson, Tim Allen, Miranda Cosgrove, Will Ferrell, Selena Gomez, Big Time Rush, Jack Black, Victoria Justice, Steve Carell, Cameron Diaz and More!
This year, first-time nominees rule the categories as Nickelodeon’s very own Big Time Rush nabbed two – one for Favorite TV Show (up against iCarly, The Suite Life on Deck and Wizards of Waverly Place), the other in the Favorite Music Group category (against Black Eyed Peas, Jonas Brothers and first-time nominee Lady Antebellum). Recording artist Train (nominated for “Hey, Soul Sister” in the Favorite Song category,) Bruno Mars (nominated for Favorite Male Singer) and Academy Award®-winner Tom Hanks (nominated for Favorite Voice from an Animated Movie for Toy Story 3) also scored first-time nominations. Gold medal Olympian Lindsey Vonn made her debut in the Favorite Female Athlete category against Danica Patrick, Serena Williams and Venus Williams.

In television, American Idol returns for its seventh nomination in Favorite Reality Show, up against America’s Funniest Home Videos, America’s Got Talent and Wipeout, while TV sidekicks battle it out as David Henrie, Jennette McCurdy, Noah Munck and Brenda Song compete for the Funniest Sidekick Category.
